Could be that you have a collapsed sewerage pipe and the ant nest has fallen into that. That would explain the ants coming up the pipe and the pipe being blocked, Could be expensive if that is what it is.

The ants would still have to navigate the waste air trap though. Not beyond their capabilities - they are pretty tough and determined.

I don't think so as the city would probably notice and fix it, (they're super nosy around here and into everyone's business and the sewage pipes are city property), though with the way the populace tosses trash wherever they feel like tossing it, it does make sense.

That's one of the things I noticed when in London in 2000, no litter anywhere and not a trash can in sight, (according to a policeman they were removed due to trash can bombs but would be replaced in future). What a difference in the public attitude towards litter, I wish more folks felt that way around here.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Over here the main sewers are the responsibility of the water/sewerage companies and local authority, but the sewerage pipes from the property to the property boundary are usually the responsibility of the property owner.

Not sure how it works here, but as we're hooked up to city water I think the inside pipes are the house owner's and the outside ones belong to the city, though I could be wrong, I frequently am...

At any rate I do have water, so I suspect everything is OK. About to get more rain, ugh, hope the little critters stay outdoors where they belong. Oddly enough, not much seems to phase them, had three crawling around my outdoor ashtray a little while ago, they burrowed in and out of the debris and then climbed out unscathed. A slug tried that about a week ago and didn't live to tell the tale.

Best wishes for many sales to all,
