    Default Time for a campaign?

I was looking for an image of the Union Flag this morning. The Union Flag does not have reflective symmetry, so I was disappoint to see how many graphics were drawn wrong, drawn right but depicted upside down, and (worse) in some cases photographs of the real flag actually being flown upside down.

A bit late for a campaign perhaps; I gave up on this one years ago. It's been going wrong since it was first introduced, just before Victoria came to the throne. I assumed that, had the Scottish referendum been successful, that would have changed things considerably, but that is no longer an issue.

Perhaps a very small arrow, pointing upward, might be incorporated into the flagstaff side of the flag; even then I am sure many would not even notice such an aid.

Plus, if the 'Yes' vote wins the EU referendum then it will become an irrelevance anyway. There will be no more United Kingdom, just an offshore dumping ground within the EU.

When you look how far we have gone with the population never having had a say on the EU, just imagine what they'll do once they get a mandate. The public will never be given a vote on the matter again.

Though if we vote 'No' then they will keep coming back until we give the 'right answer' - as they did in Ireland.

If memory serves (which it often doesn't nowadays) flags are made with a short attachment cord at the top and a longer one at the bottom.

Correct, but the larger ones I've handled have a simple pass through for the cord and that is why larger ones, on town halls for example, get swapped around for others, e.g. the flag of St George, or some visiting dignitary's nation, and it all goes to pot when reattached. All will depend upon a caretaker taking care!

If citizens cannot work out which way up the flag should be, perhaps there should be a referendum on whether or not it actually matters. I can guess the result with reasonable accuracy I am sure.

I am ignorant of the heraldry (if that is the correct word) behind the flag. Is there some reason that the one set of diagonals is thicker than the other? Personally I prefer flags such as the Bajan one (at least it is blatantly obvious if the crown is upside down.

    It's all a bit complicated. See: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Jack

Have never hoisted one upside down, but did get a call from the Station Commander one day wanting to know who had died.

At Cottesmore we had four to do twice each day, the ensign, the UK flag, the German flag, and the Italian flag.
