    Default Irish Film Classification

Hi, I am listing various DvDs at the moment. From memory most of the discs I have carry a rating both from the BBFC (UK) and IFCO (Ireland). However I have come across some that just have the BBFC rating. Does anyone know of a way of finding out the Irish ratings please? I can find no info for past releases on the IFCO although I am sure a database must exist somewhere out there. Thank for any help.

We're they released before 1989? That was when the IFCO were made responsible for classifying video recordings.

I have 3 videos with a similar problem. None of them have any classification as they were bought before the BBFC were required to classify videos (e.g. an uncut copy of Soldier Blue). I've never been sure if I could sell them without a classification.

Yes, the title I was looking for is The Deer Hunter (released in cinemas 1978). As it was "18" in the UK I can only assume that it would be that (or an equivalent) in Ireland.

**From browsing on other websites (some photos show it as 18 for Ireland)** So I will follow that.

It is a bit of a hole in the Irish database there, considering that they have a long-lived list of banned titles (most of which are now legalised).. I would have thought that they would have incorporated the back catalogue.

I guess that there must be a database somewhere - or how owuld the Irish customs organisation keep a track of what is and isn't legal when imports are made?

    Thanks

Probably not a 100% safe assumption to make. To get the 18 certificate the BBFC and/or IFCO may have required the removal (censorship) of some aspects of the video which may be present on your pre-regulation copy. I don't think all the scenes in my copy of Soldier Blue exist in a copy that you could buy now.
