Thread: Sort order on store

  1. #1

    Default Sort order on store

I am hoping someone can help me......previously when I visit my stores the items are all listed alphabetically (all run until sold items) in other words Item title low to high.

Now for some reason whenever I visit store or a category the listing seems to be defaulting to time remaining... how can I get back to the alphabetic listing as it is so much easier to work with this. At present i have to do a new sort each time I click on a category.

This seems to have changed in the last week or so and was fine until then.

    Thanks... Gary

    Hi Gary,

Whereas before we would sort listings that had an identical ending time via a second sort of alphabetical. We changed a couple of days ago to use the listing ID# as the second decision maker instead due to some user input.

We will be adding an option within the store settings soon of a default sort order for stores to display, you will be able to select alphabetical here to enable all your visitors to view your listings in alphabetical order if that is what you wish.

Hi PLEASE restore this option SOONER rather than later! I sell memorabilia and date it so access to an alphabetical order is essential and was always the way I viewed my store - seems strange to have changed things without the alphabetical order being retained as an option from the start. Please expedite the change. Further to this and as an example of the problem created by lack of alphabetical order is that I sell Front of House stills (vintage) and if one is added at a later date to a particular title the new current listing separates them, frequently on many pages apart which is not helpful to the viewer. Time endings is fine as an option, but not all stores operate on this approach and as the major seller of vintage Fantasy / Horror and Sci-Fi movie memorabilia on eBid the vast majority of my buyers (more that the current 263 reflects) are new members who join because of my particular shop (this may well be true of others too). This apart - love eBid, but not happy at this moment.

You can please all the users some of the time, and some of the users all the time, but you cannot please all the users all the time.

Can't you just use the drop-down menu to change the sort order? Or do you want to be able to control the default?

Individuals will have there own favoured way of sorting a search. eBid have stated in the past that they are averse to a multitude of user defaults in a user's profile (I think they felt it would add a layer of confusion).

Maybe the solution would be to make the selection sticky, so that the last selection made by a user is assumed their default until they change it.

Yes need to control the default as alphabetical listing is what my buyers expect... Glad to hear that this option will soon be available for us as sellers to set...Thanks

Glad to see this question addressed here. Seems to me that the most logical approach would be for store owners to be able to set the default for their stores. In my case, I sell postage stamps to collectors, so the "alphabetical" makes most sense as it allows me (with a bit of tweaking) to present the contents of the store listed by catalogue number. Since all my listings are "run until sold" the time remaining sort order doesn't functionally make sense.

Has there been any change on this yet? My shop looks a mess now and I would really like items to be back in alphabetical order the way they are stored. I have tried going in to store options and arrange by Title: low to high but it has had no effect.

I was also wondering if there was any news on the front of store keepers being able to use the "setup" for their stores to create a default setting for how a visitor sees the content of the store when they first arrive.

Failing that, would it at least be possible to make the current setting "sticky" so when someone moves from store page to store page they don't have to redo the sort order on EVERY page?

    Thanks,
    Peter
