    Default Listing Format

Here's an annoying thing:-( I want a listing title to start thus: "Legends" - only to discover that the system knocks off the first speech mark and presents Legends" - and ninja did not pick this up at the time to warn me... and once on the system, when I review/edit, nothing changes or tells me otherwise...

Is there any way to overcome this, I wonder? as I have now listed 9 items like this: http://www.ebid.net/uk/stores/one20p...story/Folklore and I would like it to be correct...

Just put 'The' at the beginning and this is accepted... so it is just that I cannot start with this: "

You could try using single quotes: 'Legends'

Or possibly double the quotes up on entry: ""Legends""

Not sure how NL would handle the latter, but some systems will display it as "Legends".

Or it may accept the escape code for a quote mark. I can't remember what that is off the top of my head; I'll look it up later.

Had a go with that too, with no joy unfortunately... seems a listing can only start with a letter - how annoying!

Yes, I have just tried on my main PC and it resists all efforts to enter any form of quote mark as the first character of the title.

The code for a quote I was thinking of was
    HTML Code:
    "
I seemed to recall that eBid stated a while back that these codes were now allowed in titles, but again that one gets stripped from the start of a title.

    One for support methinks.

I've had a check and we had in place filters to stop any non 0-9 a-z character being the first character of a listing title. We've now added " and ' as allowed characters.

Brilliantly responsive, but why have such filters in place? Trying to make a computer halfway intelligent is doomed to failure?

If your intent is to save people from typos in their titles then a warning is appropriate, but then let them continue if they choose to do so?

It was probably intended to prevent titles that started such as:

    !!!LOOK!!!
