Thread: Returning to Ebid; just gathering some opinions to ponder...

  1. #1

Talking Returning to Ebid; just gathering some opinions to ponder...

I've been away for a bit, and am coming back.

I am asking opinions; hopefully, between your generosity in answering and something that might strike my fancy, I may make some changes.

I am registered as Addy Girl. However; I'd like to, "grow up".

Thinking about changing my username to xxxxxxxxxxxx; my real name except the last is shortened for ease of reading.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I thought I'd name the handmade shop xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, but just asking others' what they think. I do not have a registered Business Name, and I don't know if I need one.

I will be posting items I have sewn/crafted, as well as selling sewing, crafting and other books.

I've been around eCrater, e(you know), Etsy, etc. and would like to make a fresh restart here.

    Thank you all!

My advice would be to think up a pseudonym using your real name on the net is not a good idea particularly for a woman, if as in your case you have an unusual name it may make you vulnerable to cranks.

Do you have a nickname? That is where my user name.

I would agree with lofty - if you want to make a business of it - even a part time one but still operating specifically as a business (great tax shelter!) then you'd be best served to come up with a good pseudonym or business name and get it registered with NY Dept of State (Fictitious name filing) If the business name is "generic enough" (such as AddZat Services) then it can pretty much be used for nearly any type of business you may choose to evolve to. but if you know exactly what you'll be doing and do not plan to change at all, and it is specific to a craft (sewing, I presume) then you might to something like AddZat Stitchery .. you get the idea.. but I'd still make the investment to register it with NY Dept of State even if you don't particularly plan to make it a full time business right now..

I agree. If you want to use your name, only use your first name, or nickname, and something related to the shop sales. SEW VERY ADDY. or ADRIENNE SEWS...or HAND SEWN for YOU, for example....
    Good luck!
    Ta-Ta for now!

I agree, a nickname is the way to go, but, do a search for your chosen name to see what pops up!
I wish I had, my name is derived from 'postcard'. Only after I registered did I do a search and found it to mean Piece of Sh*t Car

Registering a business name doesn't always work when picking a forum username though

My business name is registered with the tax office and with Company Check only when I searched here I found another user is using the name already so I can't use my legally registered name here.

Good thought; thank you lofty. I agree with you and will use a pseudom.

Thanks, Ideal - I have considered it, and hopefully I'll come up with a good name.
