The money I make goes to the local branch which is run entirely by volunteers who work extremely hard. I know them. I know what they do and why.

Probably the best thing to do. Afraid I have become very disillusioned with charities which nowadays seem more concerned with generating and accumulating money rather than putting it to the the use intended.

Have a DD for one at the moment which I am likely going to cancel as they usually spend it each month on printing and postage asking me to give more.

I contribute to those charities that mean something to me. I don't need to 'find a reason not to give' to charities whose mission I do not support.

They do that because, overall, it pays. I send messages to them explaining what communication I will accept and promising that my dd will stop if they send anything else. Works a treat!
