Default UK Warning - check your coin pots

With the new £1 coin coming out soon, make sure you spend all your old ones before they become a nuisance. Any coin stash which might contain them should be raided, asap.

I cant understand why they are wasting money doing them now as they are going to have to change all the money again when we get a king, not wishing any harm to our queen but things happen

From what I have read the reason is fraud, the current coins are too easily copied, whereas the new multi-sided ones will be more difficult (allegedly); although I am sure it will only slow down the shysters.

Nope... it all remains money... don't you remember searching your coins for bun pennies when you were small?

Apparently as many as 4 in every 10 pound coins in circulation is a forgery, I'm surprised it's taken them this long to change them

40%? Hardly. Citation needed? Or have you noticed some strange hammering noises in Aylesford lately?

The Royal Mint regularly conducts surveys to estimate the level of counterfeit £1 coins in the UK. A survey undertaken in May 2015 found that the rate of counterfeit UK £1 coins in circulation at the time was 2.55%, compared to 3.03% in May 2014.
