Default What is your favourite Xmas nut?

As per title...which do you go for?

I've only included the common in shell nuts in the poll but if you have another favourite then feel free to comment.

My favourite nut overall is the Macadamia nut but as they come shelled they are not included.

Anyone seen in shell Brazil nuts recently? I haven't.

Possibly down to this EU directive: http://extwprlegs1.fao.org/docs/html/uk39240.htm ?

I haven't really waded through the text but a quick scan would seem that it would make them very difficult/expensive to import.

The directive refers to documentation needed before Brazil nuts can be imported certifying that they are free from aflatoxin which is a fungus the products of which can cause liver damage. As someone who has had a kidney transplant, I am very pleased that the EU is trying to prevent aflatoxin from entering the food chain (Brazil nuts are only one potential source). I hope that this protection continues after Brexit and is not lost in our desperation to do trade deals.

Not sure why Christmas nuts have to have a shell on in your world. We used to have bowls of pre-shelled nuts, as well as bowls of shell-on nuts. And you didn't mention your fine self, so the list IS dismally incomplete.

As a kid, I always loved Brazil nuts, as well as pecans. But I really enjoy them all, including those lush macadamia nuts.....so, I'd go with the favorite, most versatile, pecan/almond blend!!

Best not to delve too deeply into 'my world'. You may not be strong enough to handle what you find there.

It appears that you left out several varieties from you list. Chestnuts are very popular this time of year as are pistachios.

I did leave the option open to state other preferences in comments.

For those that question my list...

It obviously based on my own experience of Xmas while growing up. That also means an English bias on what nuts are traditionally sold as Xmas fare.

In-shell as that is also more tradition in 'my world' - others' experience may vary. Xmas isn't Xmas unless you have taken someone's eye out with a piece of almond shell flying at the speed of a bullet, or heard the pained scream of someone stepping on a shell shard with their bare feet.

I don't think chestnuts are as common here as where you are. I've only had them about three times in my life and then not at Xmas.

Pistachios I wouldn't class as particularly Xmas nuts; I would lump them in with things like peanuts, cashews, and my top choice macadamias that are all year round 'snack' nuts.

Still...all just for fun and one of my occasional attempts to try and inject a bit of life back into the forums.

I have opted for Brazil nuts, though I like Almonds as well. They are just such a pain to crack
