I cannot decipher the signature on these two covers (bottom left). I can make out the first name - Walter, but cannot work out the surname. The picture might be clearer on the listing in MG Stamp Shop

    Can anyone help me out?

The surname appears to be Hornby (less likely Hardy). The line across the top, elongating the "t", hooked downward at the end, confuses things a little.

I've found this info re the "original" Walter Thornbury and I'm wondering if the covers you have were sent by one of his sons?

Walter Thornbury (13 November 1828, London – 11 June 1876, London) was an English author. He was the first biographer of J. M. W. Turner. Travelled widely including Spain, Gibralter etc.
In 1872 he married and had three sons. His last days were spent in an asylum due to overwork and he died of typhus fever in 1876 at the age of 48. One obituary lamented, "he sacrificed his life to the ardour of his literary pursuits."
