Its quite funny (strange) how a word "snide" which I have not heard for some time brings back memories.

I had one or two teachers in the late 1950s early 1960s (who were in my opinion were odious and obnoxious, isn't the English language wonderful).

They would often use the word snide and I never really knew what they meant so I looked up the meaning.

    snide

    /snʌɪd/

    adjective

    adjective: snide

derogatory or mocking in an indirect way.
      "snide remarks about my mother"

I do believe that my image of St Gretta could in no way be called indirect mockery.

There is an implication that Greta Thunberg should leave everything to "grown-ups" also that she is not mature. I'm afraid I do not understand your comment about Greta not being on eBid and about being bent out of shape. I did not say that some jokes are not allowed. I just commented that I thought that this one was in bad taste.

As far as I know Greta has not claimed sainthood. Calling someone a saint can be admiration or an attempt at mockery. Incidentally, you might try to spell her name properly.

    I stand corrected.

In fact I think I will in future call her Tintin.

I can just see the setup for this.

Smart Mum: C'mon, kids, let's stage a funny picture.

    Kids: Okay!

Seven days later they are still there.

I have a friend of 85 years who has a terrific sense of humour even though life has begun to get difficult due to slowly losing her site, she said at her funeral she wants played 'If you don't know me by Now, and time to say goodbye, and if you were to ring her up trying to sell her something she would wind you up, it is her humour that keeps her going,

Absolutely. Couldn't agree more. There's a reason people gravitate towards those with a sense of humour and a light-hearted fun nature. I have relatives in their 70s and 80s who are a lot of fun. One in particular has a self-deprecating sense of humour that I love. They are often more fun than my friends who are my age (shh don't tell them!)

I am really having trouble here.

The posts depicting Greta were criticised , yet no-one openly criticised the photo suggesting that children should be tied up and gagged....lol

    Forward to us today:

    OUR NHS
I'll tell you a tale, that's been recently written,
Of a powerful army, so Great it saved Britain,
They didn't have bombs and they didn't have planes,
They fought with their hearts and they fought with their brains,
They didn't have bullets, armed just with a mask,
We sent them to war, with one simple task,
To show us the way, to lead and inspire us,
To protect us from harm and fight off the virus,
It couldn't be stopped by our bullet proof vests,
An invisible enemy, invaded our chests,
So we called on our weapon, our soldiers in Blue,
"All Doctors, All Nurses, Your Country needs you"
We clapped on our streets, hearts bursting with pride,
As they went off to war, while we stayed inside,
They struggled at first, as they searched for supplies,
But they stared down the virus, in the whites of its eyes,
They leaped from the trenches and didn't think twice,
Some never came back, the ultimate price,
So tired, so weary, yet still they fought on,
As the virus was beaten and the battle was won,
The many of us, owe so much, to so few,
The brave and the bold, our heroes in Blue,
So let's line the streets and remember our debt
    We love you, our heroes,
    Lest we forget

I just hope that when (if) we do come out the other side of the pandemic that we don't go back to the way things were. The NHS should be properly funded and the NHS staff properly paid in future. It is amazing how many of the workers who we now regard as essential are on minimum wage and/or zero hours contracts. We really should do something about this in future!!
