Why is it that two people who sought to overturn a 52% vote in favour of Brexit, claiming it was not legitimate, are now both happy to be elected on identical or similar percentages, and cannot see the paradox?

Why is it that someone who said that if the vote was 52% remain and 48% leave, it would not be the end and he would fight on now expects that a vote of 52% leave and 48% remain should be sacrosant?.
Also, just wondering....
I've had similar thoughts, Tony...but then, I am not a poitician with an angle to grind...
