Is this the chap who speaks about "resolution" and "keeping together" and things like that? I find that so reassuring - it means his word is his bond! So rare these days...

The theory is dependent on so many other social factors. It's what happens when the page turns yet again that worries me....the child, is of course, innocent and to be welcomed. Parentage is a different matter. So is honour.

Exactly the point of my post.

Then why "congratulations"? It is normal to offer congratulations to the parents, not the child, which is "to be welcomed" as I said. I would not congratulate someone who will have to do a tour of the UK every Christmas to visit all his progeny by various mothers!

Let us just rejoice in some good news for a change.

My post was not determined by semantics or judgement.

Then it should have been specifically about the child...without the semantics being correct who on earth is to guess at the meaning? I am sure there are babies being born today in far more need of a welcome than is Boris' latest.

Then I shall make it clear:

CONGRATULATIONS BORIS AND CARRIE ON THE BIRTH OF YOUR BABY.

What you want to read into it, is up to you. I was merely reporting the news with a link.
