Thread: daftest lockdown breach?

  1. #21

    Default Re: daftest lockdown breach?

That's exactly what I meant when I mentioned anomalies earlier. I live in a block of 19 flats and one silver lining of the lock-down is we've got to know each other a lot better than before and on sunny afternoons have had some interesting chats from our balconies.

Why exactly can one neighbour walk his dog several times a day (staying out on the almost deserted playing fields opposite for hours), but another with two young boys has to keep them in the flat most of the day. Instead of her sitting in the sun on the fields and letting them burn off some energy for a few hours??

Why are small,, family run businesses shuttered and in real difficulties while giant corporations are open and trading normally?

I can't buy a toilet-brush at my local hardware store, but can at the Wilco 100 yards away because they stock a minute amount of "food" and a very limited range of cleaning products. Which the family store doesn't.

I went to Homebase yesterday (my lawn-mower broke down) and while queueing saw more garden plants and compost coming out the door than DIY materials But the family-run nursery I buy from for my business is progressively throwing this seasons summer plants away in an effort to save some fit to sell if they are allowed to open in time to do so.

I do hope the reported relaxation, coming on Monday addresses these and others. 99% of people are following the guide-lines, or at least doing their best to. But if the logic can't be seen, co-operation might also start to fray and that won't help anyone.

I do so agree with you, luckily I live in a small village where a lot of common sense prevails and some families with younger children are taking them to the rec to get their daily burn out - nobody goes near them, no-one complains, everyone's happy...

The lockdown rules regarding shopping to seem unfair to the smaller specialist shopkeeper, it is possible for them to open safely - again, using our minimarket village shop as an example, he has painted lines outside his shop every 2 metres and only allows 2 people in the shop at any time, calling them in when he's ready - it works, he's happy, we're happy, no-one's abused it and we're as safe as using a mainstream supermarket. There has to be a sensible way round these things.

Our local hardware store is allowed to open on the grounds that batteries and the like are essential. He is selling more than he usually does as we all avoid travelling further to the big stores.

But I totally agree with you about the anomalies.

P.S. I visited my local paper's website and found that we have had a reduction in those breaking the rules. I wonder if it is because people are not reporting them? I saw three lads on the skate park near to me yesterday and I'm all but sure they don't all live in the same house but... they were outside... away from anyone else... and burning off energy.

Not particularly daft but the people opposite us had a party last night - just 2 extra people but breaking the rules. We didn't report it because we are the only people who could have seen what happened and we still have to live near them. However, they will not be allowed within 5m of either of us!

    And still it's happening;

The smouldering anger in West Wales as second home owners keep coming from Nottingham, Manchester, London and Glasgow.

Apparently people don't realise that travel to 2nd homes/holiday lets in Wales has been banned by the WAG!

Might want to make that eight metres, Madelaine! And not stand downwind of them!

Followed up on that link and horrified to find the same old misunderstandings being bandied about, specifically the one about "Little England" (Lloegr Fach). The term "Little England (beyond Wales)" has for centuries been applied to Southern Pembrokeshire and not to the whole area. The language divide occurred when thousands of Flemings settled in the South of the county. By now many of the Southerners are unaware of the origin...

However, the basic point applies to all, and as I have said in earlier posts is as valid in Suffolk and Cumbria as in Wales or Scotland, or anywhere else for that matter..

This situation has been made even more complicated by the Welsh Assembly still keeping the old rules. Boris' speech only applies to England. A point he did not make clear.
