Thread: I got this letter from halifax today:

  1. #1

Default I got this letter from halifax today:

I regret to tell you that the enclosed cheque has not been honoured for the reason stated on the front.
Your above account will be debited with the amount.

The reason stamped on the front of the cheque says "refer to drawer"

Please can anyone tell me what this means?

(I have a sneaky suspicion its a bounced cheque, but plz dont tell me it is)

    Hello bunjee

    from the net..

    Refer to drawer

If a cheque is returned unpaid details of the action that the
payee should take are normally supplied. Refer to drawer means
that before representing the cheque (paying the cheque back in)
the payee is advised to speak to the drawer.

Drawer is the person who issues the cheque..

Maybe someone with personal knowledge can advice..

OMG I think it sounds like a bounced cheque

It wouldnt have been so bad if the auction in question wasnt a charity auction, in which case I had sent the money to charity and now Im down 3 times

Oh its ok now - I just found this http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jsp?...=1107924939918 on the google boards with a mention of 'refer to drawer' on it meaning the cheque has bounced!!!

If it says "refer to drawer - please represent", it means to repay the cheque in, there is a chance there might be some regular funding, but you just hit a bad time.

If it just says "refer to drawer" it means you have sod-all chance of getting paid up.

    Sorry it's not better news.
