Thread: Changeing the way adult material is displayed next to

Default Changeing the way adult material is displayed next to

Right I realised a little while ago that if you are selling both adult material and normal material there is a little problem.

Point 1: If someone clicks on one of my normal items and then looks at all my items then they see not only the normal items but the adult only items I have listed. This cant be good for anybody. Especially as I want to list some disney dvd's. I havnt because of this.

Point 2: If someone logs onto the site and does a normal search say for a typical soft UK magazine they wont find any. They have to goto the whatevers left secion/adult and then search.

I think the over 18's section needs a bit more space on the front page. But at the same time anybody who dosnt want to see this material can simply change their preferences so that they never see the over 18's section.

IE: A new user signs up as a Bronze. As part of the sign up procedure he is asked if he/she wants over 18 content included in his/her searches or not. Later if he changes his/her mind he can goto his preferences and make the change. If you have 'I dont want to see any adult material' selected in your preferences then you will never see any items listed in that section, even if the seller's list of items for sale includes these. It might also be possible to hide the over 18's section completly unless you have expressed the wish to see such items.

Rather than bury the over 18's section lets have a main catagory for it like qxl. The section there is much busier than this one. But again lets hide it until the buyer has clicked 'I want adult material included in the search'. (I dont want to sell on QXL because they charge a lot...)

I now have 60 normal items listed and 83 adult items listed so for me its quite important to get this kind of thing straight. I assert that I am not some kind of weirdo because I sell porn. Its quite simple to me: If I can pick up mens magazines for £2 each and they are worth between £5 and £20 each then I will. Just as I will buy a disney DVD if I know its worth a lot more than I paid for it...

Hope this makes sense to all.

Makes sense to me, like you I have some adult erotic books to list and I was so worried about this I mailed the support centre to see if I was breaking the rules by allowing it in my store, read the copy of the mail I got from them. My querie is at the very bottom, but I have to say this, they did answer me within 30 minutes I think that is great support.

Hi,You may place adult items in your store. These items will not be shown on Front page auctions or be shown
    as a featured store.
Let us know if we can be of any more assistance.

You could have 2 selling IDs to keep things seperate, both at Silver status (as you are now). Just a suggestion

    Hi,
I'd thought of that but then feedback is also split in 2 and if I manage to get some sales going here I would upgrade to gold. So far I have listed only my lowest grade stock (what I regard as my high grade stock is more money) except for a few items. And am trying to get time to list everything I have over the next month or 2. So I think Gold membership isnt going to happen in the near future but it may and having 2 memberships is twice as expensive

Instead of a second ID how about a 2nd store on the same ID for the adult items? That way the feedback would all be together and it would only cost £1.99 a month, just a thought

Many months ago I emailed EBId support to ask if i could open a second account ( one for my business, one for private purchases). I can't remember EBIDs exact response, but it pointed towards me opening a second store rather than being allowed to have a second user ID. I got the impression it was against EBIDs rules to have two selling IDs (less some long standing EBID sellers who set up second accounts years ago)..

Assuming second seller accounts WERE allowed- how does EBId stop sellers selling to themselves ( to up feedback), or bidding on their own auctions to raise prices?

    Hi,
yes I thought I had seen a thead on here a few weeks ago about somone being unable to open a second ID for there daughter (I think).

Also shops are not allowed to contain adult content. This is somthing I would ask to be changed if I can get some joy from this line of enquiry first. ebid could have special adult only shops maybe.
