Angry Shill Bidding - inflating your own auction bids

Does 'shill bidding' exist on ebid too like toher auction sites?

(Shill bidding is where a person registers several accounts, sells on one account, and then uses one of his other accounts to bid up the item to a level he wants to see it sell at or to encourage bidding activity).

It's very easy to spot shill bidding when it happens, but as Im new to ebid I'd like to know if I can protect myself as a buyer should this be evident. It probably doesnt happen here as the reserve prices are free anyway!

Suspected bidders on their own auctions (shilling) will see their accounts placed on hold.
I haven't noticed it happening, I'm not sure if you can sign up for lots of accounts on eBid.

I emailed support checking it was ok to have a second account & told them the username I was planning to use before I opened it. I also pointed out that I understood the rules on shill bidding, & there would be no interaction between my accounts.

    Thanks, Gothicina.
As you have quoted an ebid policy on shill bidding it is obviously something that can happen on this site too, so I will continue to use my wits about it.

It would help being able to investigate a bidder's idding history, as this is one of the ways of detecting shill bidding. Is there a facility for doing this on ebid?

This has happened here before, there was a thread about it some time ago, it was reported & dealt with.
You might find the thread if you do a search for it.

My auctions, good prices, fair p&p.

Are you saying the Thrad was repoprted and 'dealt with'?

Does anyone really not know whether it's possible to search a bidder's bidding history??

There was a thread here about shill bidding going on, the shill bidding was reported as far as i can remember, it was stopped anyway, actually a bit more is coming back to me now, the thread became really funny & was made into a detective type book which was sold in a charity auction, i'd forgotten about that, can any YDCers here remember what the thread was called? going to see if i can find it.

i don't see why anyOne would need to shill bid, i understand people doing that on ebay because they start their auction at low prices to avoid larger listing fees but listing is free here

Have there been many instances of double-shilling - inflating prices via two other accounts, then withdrawing bids from one shill account, leaving the secondary shill to keep things still relatively (and artificially) high?

I've been here 2 years and not yet read of any shill bidding going on here.
