    Short answer is, you don't. Not officially, anyway.

    To do it officially, you need a PS3 and access to the US PlayStation Store. You can then download PS1 games to your PS3, transfer them to the PSP and play them there. Or, with the new firmware update, you can play them on the PS3 itself.

    Unofficially, you can install a 3rd-party 'homebrew' firmware update on your PSP and download ISO's (i.e. pirate software) of original PS1 games to play. The problem there is that (a) the legalities of the process are extremely dubious, and (b) you risk 'bricking' your PSP... i.e. rendering it useless.
