With due respect - so are you , and if taken literally if you buy goods to sell on to make profit it is a business

Not everyone buys stock or goods to sell on. People also sell online to get rid of things they no longer have a use for and stuff they don't need or want.

Not in Scotland it isn't - already had this discussion in another thread, glad to see it has resurfaced - eBid is NOT restricted to over 18s and anyone selling any age restricted items needs to know that - even games, CDs and Films . You WILL be held personally responsible if you are caught selling to under age buyers. I know this because I had Trading Standards contact me regaring eBid sales of 18+ games being sold without adequate checks being in place to guarantee they weren't being sold to under 18s.

So Nyk, how would you suggest that we verify people's ages? Short of asking for documentary proof (I wouldn't be happy sending a copy of ID documents to people I hadn't heard of before). The only way I can think of is asking for a confirnatory e-mail - a little pointless as some-one wanting to buy an 18 video, will not admit to being under that age. But I suppose it would put the blame on them if they lied.

You might end up having to use a third-party service.

Does anybody know what happened to Baroness Massey's private bill about age verification for online sellers? Wasn't it supposed to have had its second reading by now?

You appear to have taken that quote out of context. I was not saying that legal responsibilty was removed from the seller by a site's minimum age for use policy. I was simply saying that such policies normally exists.

If you read back to my post at #5 I said much as you are saying now.
