But in a flea market/boot sale/second hand store type of sales venue I would probably use it.

My main concern is that if it is adopted by eBid buyers would not understand why all sellers won't be willing to use it. Already the auction nature of the site has almost disappeared with so many sellers using Buy Now Only format. I fear that sellers, like myself, will be forced to leave eBid because of it.

    That's abit drastic isn't it.
It sounds like anyone who is not a business seller is either "flea market/boot sale/second hand store". What on earth difference does that make.

I am still not sure on this one I'm afraid, sorry!
I have used it to buy items elsewhere.

Since some of my items are handmade I think I price them pretty low, so I don't think I would accept anything lower.

So I think it going to have to be a no, for the present. Sorry!

You have no reason to apologize. If you won't use it, you should answer "No".

I think this kind of poll is useful to Admin. It's a waste of their time to add a feature that won't be used.

Yes, on certain items. It may get the buyers involved,
    and take more interest.

I voted Yes as i have many items i would love to sell.

However in the category i sell in there are many thousands of items for sale...

The ones i do sell are as cheap as i can sell them for (most making a loss) but it would be wonderful to put more expensive items up for sale with the option of ''Make me an Offer'...

    Take care...

Actually, I don't think it's at all drastic. There is absolutely nothing wrong with selling by negotiation. It is a time honored system of trade that has been practiced since ancient times. I didn't mean to imply that there was anything wrong with flea markets (known as boot sales in the UK) or second hand stores. I only mentioned them as examples of businesses that use the negotiation method of selling. This can also be said of new and used car dealerships as well.

Most large retail establishments and many high end boutiques, however, don't usually engage in negotiation as a general rule. Most have formulas by which they figure the markup they need have to make money on their inventory and use that to set their prices. In addition, not many employers authorize their sales clerks to enter into negotiations with the customer. Does the clerk behind the cosmetics counter at JC Penney's have the authority to haggle over price with customers?

To sell at auction is a particular type of selling that is somewhat narrowly defined by law. It is a system of selling where the final price of the goods being sold is determined by competitive bid. Strictly speaking, an auction with a BIN option attached is not a true action either. The availability of an opportunity to purchase the item at a fixed price (BIN) takes away the competitive bid aspect required to make it an auction. When someone elects to use the BIN option to buy an item they are, in effect, changing the auction into a retail sale.

With regard to business sellers, I should point out that by offering merchandise for sale one is in effect engaging in business. From the multi-location department store chain to the family down the street holding a yard sale they are all engaging in business.

I'll be voting yes on this one

I probably wouldn't use in on all my stores, and probably not very often either, but it would be handy to have it there as a listing / pricing option for any high end price house clearance items that I have or may have at some time in the future

The bottom line being that we do need to encourage more buyers and sellers to the site - and if a best offer listing / buying facility is there for new members to use - then it may help increase the member numbers thereby increasing the seller listings which in turn will encourage the buyer numbers cos they'd have more choice here and would over time check here first rather than other on line sites.

Boy - I do hope that makes sense.

there is another site (admittedly a more specialised one) that gives you the best of both worlds.... no one can make an offer until your item has been relisted (if I recall correctly) 6 times. after that they can make an offer if they want to. As it must be coded in somewhere might it not be an idea to do the same here... of cause it is up to you if you accept the offer... it has got me quite a few sales there. although my starting price is normally the lowest offer I will accept, but after a while I am willing to take a little less to clear the stock

I'm having an epiphany! Best Offer is obviously the right way to go. Thanks for turning me around on the subject. I hope the admins are listening and grant your wish. It will be most enjoyable to watch the buyers play all you sellers against each other to see who will surrender the greatest bargains. After all, we want buyers to pay as little as possible, right?
