Smile Search by Country Option up front

    Hi!

I'm in the United States and many of the items being offered are being sold in another country.

You can't tell from the Search Results until you click on an item unless you click on advanced search options.
(I didn't even think to click on that myself, since I was in us.ebid.net I was getting very frustrated and didn't even think to try the "advanced" search. I just assumed that it would show US items (I know, I know, never assume!). Once I did see the advanced search, I had a "duh" moment!)

I think it would be extremely user friendly to offer a country choice in the regular Search area.

Shoppers don't want to click any more than they have too. And since most shoppers spend seconds at a site before they leave, it's crucial that they find something quickly and easily.

Search for: _________ in category: ___________ located in: ___________

    Just my two cents.

    Absolutely nothing wrong!

But I find most shoppers start out looking within their own country for items. The shipping costs are lower.
If I can find a pet bed in France, why would I buy one in, say, the US? Unless I wanted a specific bed.. then I would search in other countries if I couldn't find one where I lived.

By offering the search by country up front, shoppers could easily change by choosing from a drop down menu.

    It was just a suggestion!

    @pattasticpet

I am getting confused on this country thing again.
I thought that when you go into ebid the first thing you get is the green page that says "what country do you want to shop from".
So if you click USA, you will only see listings for sale in the USA, which is what you want !

Or have I got it wrong ?

You will see items *available to* your country, which might be anywhere. Those which are overseas will show the price in your local currency, but in italics to differentiate them from local items.

Well, I never noticed that .. the italics, until you mentioned it. To be honest, it's not obvious and there is no indication of *why" they are italics until you click on an item, then see a different currency.

I think it's confusing, but that's just my opinion. Don't shoot me! LOL!

Since it seems most of the customers come from Google Base, they more than likely don't browse much anyway. They tend to look at an item and leave, or buy it. (I have LiveZilla on my site and watch this all the time. Maybe 40% or less go to search or click on a category.)
