A category is just that, a category. A toy is not a toy when it pertains to a NASCAR die-cast car.. it is a die-cast car collectable, and not a toy collectable.
    Clear?

"Collectables” are manufactured and sold with the intent of being collected. Items such as die-cast cars and trading cards fall into this category and are often sold with the intention of collecting an entire set.

Yes, we all know that die cast cars can fall into the category of collectables. They are also still produced, in their millions, as toys.

The whole collectables section/concept is rather an irritation really. It's liable to cause endless repetition of categories.

I so agree, Kedo, though it is a difficult one in some areas. Personally, I think anything which could be in another category should be removed from collectables. For example, the removal of China and Glass to its own top-level category has made life a lot easier for both buyers and sellers (imho!).

I feel a bit the same way about Antiques... it's that old problem.. Define an antique! However, an antique table is still furniture!

Yes, well, it's funny you should say that. I nearly mentioned 'antiqueness' as another concept that really messes with categories and leads to duplication. Old lamps are a case in point, there's a category in antiques and there's also one in collectables. I never know which one to list in so I just list where everyone else does (sidthelamp mainly). All we really need is one category headed something like 'vintage & antique lamps'. I'd put it in antiques because, for me, antique is anything pre WWII.

Sounds like it might be time to look closely and suggest some changes to both categories?

As said, messy for those who sell older items right now. For old linens, I use Antique, textiles, or Home & Garden if newer. On feebay older linens were in Antiques and Collectables, and frankly a doily does not seem like a collectable! As mentioned, collectables should be items manufactured for sole purpose of collecting a set. One of a kind glasswear or doilies don't fit that.

I guess to start I would like to suggest that Antiques be changed to Antiques/Vintage, any thoughts anyone? That would solve the problem of people complaining things are not 100 years old in there (yet we have no other place to put them except with new items). Easier than spliting off vintage 50 years old items and making new category for them and get everyone confused. Looks like that is what feebay did and look how messy it was to end up with linens in collectables?

    So maybe questions would be:

Are there any Collectables categories/sub cats that need to be switched to Antiques?

Any categories in Antique (or elsewhere on ebid), that need to be moved to Collectables?
