Wow, what a gorgeous shot! Wish I could use a camera as well as that...

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Thanks a lot Magz. Unfortunately I have to be very careful where I place my feeders and the trees are a definite "no,no". I get squirrels as well and if I position them in such a way that the squirrels can get to them, they just take over.
I can see another trip to the garden centre coming up today.

    I use one of these in my garden;

    Attachment 20087

The pole is adjustable so can be set high to keep cats away and have never seen a squirrel anywhere near it.

I have all sorts of feeders on it - peanuts, seeds, nyger seeds, bread/fat cake - and the birds love it! Occasionally get a woodpecker or two, but mostly finches, sparrows, dunnocks, siskins, bluetits and great-tits.

Will be even better when we move as will be in view of kitchen and conservatory windows.

Any thing we put out gets attacked by the seagulls and they are huge here, the poor little birds stand no chance in fact the holiday makers don't stand a chance either even they get the food ripped out of their hands.

For the first time ive added a feeder with nuts but the Tits dont seem interested .

I have an area at bottom of path where i put seeds bread and odd bits for the chaffinches which is working unless the Doves and Pigeons get in first.

I have found that feeders need to be near some sort of cover like hedges where they feel safer.
To be honest get more pleasure watching the birds than i do from the TV.

We love to watch the birds, We have 3 bird tables with Roofs on, 2 of those feeder poles to hang different feeder from, 2 bird baths.
We use Woodland crumble which has the mealworm in, and also a general table mix. with black sunflower seeds in. We keep Bushes thick so they can dive in out of the way of the sparrow hawk, which is just over the road in the park. peanuts and coconut don't seem to be very popular, they like the 2 feeders which hold fatballs.
We have a young robin (this years) which rarely leaves the garden, Dunnet, Bluetits, Goldfinches, House sparrows.Blackbird, Starlings, Green finches, Long Tailed Tits.Song Thrush.
We were very lucky this year as the garden was full of baby house sparrows, from our sparrow lodges we have. Baby blackbirds, Baby Dunnets, and the Baby Robins.(a first)
Also have to watch for the Heron, who likes to keep an eye on the Koi pond.

Annie, I have 2 poles, but only with 2 hanging loops at the top. They are positioned near a hedge, but far enough away, so that the squirrels can't jump on to them from the hedge and they seem to be smooth enough for the squirrels not to be able to get enough grip to climb them.

I cut the bottom off a plastic drinks bottle, thread string through the bottle, attach one end string to bird feeder & other end to tree branch. With the widest part of bottle over the feeder & neck end of bottle nearest branch

Make sure the bottle reaches about half way down the feeder & then squirrels can't get to the feeder as there is nothing for them to grip to. Even when they take a flying leap at the feeder it is too slippery for them.

I change the peanuts in my feeder daily so throw what's left on the ground for squirrels, but not advised if you have pidgeons around as nuts get stuck in back of their throats

I feed the birds in my garden, they eat all the scraps.
    Saves a fortune on catfood.
