Thread: SOLD - Collection Only question.

  1. #1

Default SOLD - Collection Only question.

Just sold some chairs to a newbie eBidder 3 of them for £5. Now on the auction description I've stated 'collection only' and 'When buying please advise on what day and time you will be collecting' and marked it as 'Collection in Person' on the domestic shipping. The buyer hasn't yet informed me when they'll be collecting so that I can make sure I'm in when they turn up. I'm also thinking that maybe they saw the auction and clicked on buy now without reading the domestic shipping option and the description and are thinking that it is free postage.

This is also my 1st attempt at a collection only auction.

I'm not sure of the actual weight but I'm guessing that postage would cost about £7-£9 for delivery. The buyer has paid instantly via paypal. Any thoughts on the kind of email I should send them with regards to the auction?

    Hi Craig,

Firstly I wouldn't accept payment by PP for collection goods, cash only.

If the sale goes ahead the buyer could claim they haven't received the goods from you as it wouldn't show on PP that the goods were collected & you have no proof of delivery

You have their address so are they local enough to collect them.

They have paid - simply ask them when it is convenient for them to collect the items!

Hi, I sell plenty of pick up only items every week, my suggestions :

Use cash on collection only (as above post from foxescome)
Send buyer your contact address & tel no.
    Arrange a collection time
Get them to phone you before travelling to re-confirm pick up

With collection only you may have to wait for buyer to finish work/ a day off/ arrange transport etc

Depending on what you sell, your location, sex (craig..let me guess LOL) it may be an idea to have some one with you at time of collection for safety.

We have bought quite a few things cash on collection and it can still be a problem. Once the seller said we had given him short money, even though we counted it and he counted it at the time (we think he was just trying us out). Now we always ask for a signed receipt that we have paid. You could do the same for the buyer when he/she collects i.e. ask them to sign a dated paper to say they have collected the goods. It is always a good thing to have a second person there as a witness, you never know these days.
