Assuming point one is *true* (which I haven't checked) I'd guess either on conversion rates, interest made, or it's simply a carrot to suck you in for something else that *does* make money. Lots of big companies provide services that aren't direct revenue generators, but are still good business.

Kim do you know if you can use it in the U.K or is it just for their American customers ? I just went and had a quick look and all the information seemed to be for .com account holders and it didn't mention the U.K. Amazon site account holders?
