Cool Writing long descriptions ? good or bad

When writing a description on a item do you write as much detail as possible or just short sharp and sweet ?

I aways try to describe my items with as much detail as possible but many times ive noticed listings not only on here but also the bay and other websites items listed with just 2-3 words describing the item

on a well known bed site a single bed had in its description ........... 3ft divan. nothing else

    My questions is

1 would to much information put you off

2 to little description make you move on

3 not really bothered steve and go make some breckfast

Being nosy - as much info as possible. Seriously though, the more the better.

Too short descriptions generally make me move on.

i.e. "widget-good condition" no use to me at all, is your idea of condition the same as mine?

I like to write a long description with lots of pictures. The customer can't pick up my item and examine it before he buys it, so I try to give himas much info as possible.

Depends on the item. If I'm looking at vintage china I want to know plenty, if I'm buying office supplies I probably just need make and size.

When I write my descriptions, I first try to put myself in my customers shoes. A long time ago, I read an article about writing really good descriptions and simply put : write your description as though there were no pictures and take pictures as if there were no words. Because if I am looking at an item online I want to know more than a few words. I always try to point out all flaws and take actual pictures of the item not use the stock picture as your main picture. So sometimes my condition section of my listing ends up being long, but I point out all the flaws that I can find on that particular item. Also on items like books, DVDs, video games etc I try to also put in my description a summary of the game, DVD or book. I think this also helps, yes it does take me a little longer to list items, but I am confident that the customer has as much information as possible to make an informed purchase and be happy with their items.

Couldn't agree more. IMHO, the more info. provided, the easier it is for a potential buyer to make an informed decision.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

It all depends on the item but generally speaking the more info the better.

if it had only a few words..........I'd move on

If it is an epic descripiton..........I'd move on

If I am going to be looking for something, l would already have a general idea about it

what I look for in the description, is

    colour, size, or dimensions.
if item is new or used
and the main thing is if their are any flaws with said item, and wait it comes with, (extra's) for example at the mo I am looking for a upvc double glazed window, but will it come with handles, cill ect
and maybe why they are selling (if used)
Life is serious but taking it too seriously robs you of
    happiness, fun and productivity
