Gazza,
Am I correct in thinking that if an item has the word "collectable" or "vintage" in its listing tittle the item is allowed to be loaded into GS without further identification numbering etc?
Here's the official lowdown from Google on combinations they are expecting to see:

If you goto the bit "Required Product Categories" you will see it tells you exactly what you MUST use for things like Books, Music, Clothing etc
It looks like for Media (i.e. Music, Films, Video games) they want to see at least a UPC, EAN or JAN.

Hi Gazza,
Can you provide a bit of guidance as to what is regarded and acceptable to Google as a brand? For example, in the pet world as far as the general public are concerned brand is frequently interchangable with manufacturer/supplier. So for example you would buy a Rosewood, or ANCOL, or Armitage dog lead. But as far as the manufacturer/supplier is concerned (taking Rosewood as an example), the brand is actually Wag n Walk, or Soft Protection or Flexi.
What exactly are Google after in this field? Given the hopeless mess that Amazon brands regularly turn out to be (at least for pet items) it's probably important to get this field right.
Any info would be handy.

Hi PetBazaar,
This is what Googles official stance is regarding your type of product:
At least two of the following three identifiers:
* UPCEAN or JAN
* Brand
* MPN
As far as Brand goes Google only uses it to furfil users searchs. What they 100% have to have for your type of product is a Barcode (UPC,EAN or JAN) OR a Manufacturers code (MPN).
I would personally in your posistion list the brand as what its commonly known by your customers as.

Brand will always be the manufacturer.
Apple
Levis
Fisher Price
Ford
Callaway
etc
Media (cd/dvd/video games) won't have a brand, it can be left out.
We will be making some changes to the listing form like hiding the brand box for media items. Also adding a warning for media items being listed that haven't had a barcode entered.
