As this subject has recently been raised in forums yet again...

How about ideas for a replacement icon and associated text?

The current icon is 25 pixels wide by 12 pixels high, so your icon should be within a bounds of that size to avoid any layout implications. Post your designs to this thread.

Also, the text 'Low Feedback Rating' needs some work. How could what eBid is trying to say be put across better?

Maybe if we do the groundwork for them they will be more inclined to implement it.

Alternatively, does the site actually need such an icon - or should it just be done away with altogether? What purpose does it actually serve?

Hi Mel,
I am not sure we actually need this - I can see the feedback number anyway so can tell if it is a new member or not. Before I purchase anything I normally take a look at the feedback and the sunglasses icon doesn't really do anything for me.

I don't really understand what the sunglasses icon means. I get that it signifies the user is a newbie but I don't understand it's relevance whatsoever or why sunglasses represents what it does, if you catch my drift.

I think such an icon must act as a Site disclaimer in some way.
(a new Seller icon exists elsewhere although I don't think it has the same damning connotation
as the eBid Dark Sunglasses).

How about the following with the text:

New eBid Seller

Guess it means they are an unknown quantity........you can't see their eyes!!! To me it seems 'suspicious'.....don't like it, really.

HAHAH!!! Love the purple L (as someone who has just gotten my RED L, and who will begin the arduous journey next week of getting my license in the UK (after having driven here for one year and in the US for 44 years...or so)

How about something along the lines of:

Red L for a new member
Amber L for a low feedback
then Green P to show that the member has passed the the new member stage and their feedback is above 2

I did think of the 'L' plate - but wasn't sure that it would have meaning in all the countries that eBid serves.

Any icon would have to make sense across borders.

I don't understand why it is there any more - when people can legitimately import feedback and remove the icon without any sales/buying activity on eBid.

Single "L" around here stands for loser, so probably not a good replacement. I dont feel the sunglasses or any pointing out someone is new is necessary. Thats what feedback is for. If feedback is imported the sunglasses go away anyway so we still need to view feedbacks and all about me pages.
