There is a massive difference between "neat and consistent" and "perfect". Nobody's suggesting it needs to end up looking like a machine-made piece, a little character is what makes artisan items so appealing.

Great comments so far. Thanks everybody this really does help.
Since this is all hand work and not put together by machines, perfect I dont beleive will happen. Pretty sure the goal for the next one is to try and make the lines more even and smoother.
I agree , something like this would be very hard to make money on. This one get's hung up by my drums. We will have to see if the next one comes out better.

Everyone has been extremely helpful and honest in regards to the originally pictured peice (suncatcher). I wonder if I may ask all your opinions one more time.

Using the same pattern as shown we are going to make another one with a twist. I was able to cut the circles quite easy out of cymbals (I didn't waste any cymbals these were small cymbals with damage beyond repair) and they fit into the pattern perfectly. One of the nicer things about it is I made sure the cymbal manufacturer name, cymbal name, logo or all were incorporated into the rings of the circles I cut. I think it will look pretty cool if one of the rings has Zildjian at the bottom with the familiar fancy A at the top, another has the B8 stamp with the Sabian cymbal logo and the other has the Meinl cymbal Logo all pointing right side up in relation to the peice.

I can easily cut all other components out of glass or from cymbal material or a combination of either. One thought I had was any peices inside the 3 rings would be from the Amber glass, nothing fancy just the same color Amber that matches John Bonhams see through vistalite drum kit. Mix and match glass with cymbal on the outside of the rings then border the peice in all cymbal. Hopefully wherever I incorporate the cymbal peices they will show the manufacturers metal stamp that was impregnated into the original cymbal.

This new peice will end up with very small solder joints. Since the glass is thicker then the cymbal material the back of the peice will show a different solder joint then the front but still more even then the original showing in the OP.

These symbols of Led Zeppelin are not Trademarked, my intention if this goes as well as I believe it will is to advise my local news station, any drummers I have dealt with over the years, all the drum and cymbal forums, facebook and whoever else I can think of that there will be a one of a kind unusual peice up for sale on eBid.

Between us in the Forums I will put an extremely high price on it as the intent is truly not to sell it but to generate some interest here on eBid. If I don't get a lot of interest in it I can always keep it for myself. But if for some reason it does sell at the price I put it up for let's just say 75% of the sale price will go for a charity and the charity will be the next month's after it sells YDC candidate.

Oh and before I do go through the trouble of pitching this peice to the media I will for sure post it here to make sure everybody agrees it's worthwhile material. I don't want a peice of junk representing eBid so I will definately get everyones opinion. the boyz included. Just so you know this is not something I would do with the first peice pictured here.

    Hmm very interesting indeed!
I like this piece too. I have to agree with both of Kims threads. Ive done a lot of crafts myself over the years, and her advice is really good (the same principle when learning a new instrument too)
And yes Im the first to say I like things that have character and dont have that manufactured, perfected look BUT on this kind of thing , I think it DOES look better with a neater more refined finish, it's the same with dressmaking or knitting even, you cant have threads hanging down or buttons hanging off and raw edges etc some things just have to be tidier, and in this case for this kind of thing it would be more aesthetically pleasing to the eye that way I would say.
Before you posted your last bit Adruml I was going to say that if you make these designs more specialised (and as a musician and big Bonham fan myself as you know, I LOVE this idea of yours). I would definitely pay more for THAT.
I was also going to suggest a make to order kind of idea too, again giving you the chance to charge a far higher price.
Once again I would be interested and would pay your asking price.
I think you and Christine between you are really onto a great idea here. She obviously has the natural talent and eye for creative things that KIm spoke of, but so do you. The 2 of you doing this would be something even much more special.
I like this (obviously even more cos of the Bonham connection) but agree more practice is needed first.
    Keep us posted though!!!

Every bit of advice, comments, critiques and suggestions have all been inspiring and much appreciated. Very helpful to say the least.
I hope this next one will be an extrordinary peice and grab some attention.
