Default A question about GRAFTON China that someone may help me with...

I have pieces of Handpainted GRAFTON China consiting of the following

    3 Cups & Saucers - 1 Milk Jug - 1 Sugar Dish

On the base of each item are the following

    Handpainted - GRAFTON - China - Made in England 6122 - HH

Considering that these pieces are I believe pre 1949, could anyone guess a rough value please?

To give you an idea of their size, the size of the saucers, for instance, a mear 11.6cms across. (4.5")

regards and have a very Merry Christmas

    Robert

Tony Many thanks for your input. Good point that I 'may' look into in the New Year, but may I say a few words about our first meeting with an Auction House....
A few months ago my wife and I took quite a lot of china along to an Auction House, for a valuation, these pieces were not among them,
the auctioneer was very dismissive of our collection, saying that it would be better taking them to a car boot.
Among these items was a piece of Troika, a Marmalade Pot, that the Auctioneer honed in on very quickly ans said that it should fetch betweet £60 to £80
This piece we later sold on another auction site for £100. as were many of these pieces.
    regards Robert

I am very well attender at auctions.
    Been to 300 to 400.
What annoys me with auctioneers is when you are diliberately missed in favour of somebody else?
    Also Bids on the Wall.
Robert somebody on here will give you a good valuation i am sure.
    cheers Tony

This again is where 'business looks after business' and 'friends look after friends' - being ignored is one of my pet dislikes in life, just grin and bear it Tony. regards Robert

George Kidner? Always found them very helpful and informative, but sightly inclined to err on the side of caution with valuations.

I tend to agree with tony, have been to many auctions, some are good and "straight", others are very dodgy. there are a few tell tale signs if you go to one whiich i wont mention here, but generaly the more reputable ones are the auction houses that are featured on tv shows, bargain hunt for example. most have well qualified experts and almost all have a web site that often includes sending photos of items for valuation by email. this may be one avenue to explore. btw i expect you already know they were hand painted and the pattern number is 6122. there are sites on the internet that will give you the info you want. good luck in your search

HobbyHabbitat Many thanks for your valued comments. I can understand them being cautious as we have all seen both disappointment and suprises at auction 'hammer' prices.

I have spent quite some time looking on the internet trying to find out the Pattern number name to no avail, as yet, but the vastness of the internet is mind blowing, for a Pensioner.
    regards Robert.

Glad to see you moved this thread, many good suggestions here. Live auction valuation is an excellent idea, never thought of that, though I don't attend too many auctions, mostly flea markets and yard sales.

Hope you get some info. on this lovely china soon.

Happy holidaze and many sales to all,
