But it does fall under 'animal ivory' - which is banned from sale on eBid. It matters not one jot an item's legal trading status - eBid has the right to bar from sale on its site anything it chooses. Often a 'blanket ban' is because it is far too hard to police (particularly across borders) certain items.

There is nothing more certain than if there is money to be made in trading an illegal item, that some people will try to find ways to do it, and to hide behind legitimate trade.

I started creating displays using authentic woolly mammoth hair and tusk - similar to the one I have running on eBid at this time. For a number of years I always had one of these displays running on eBay and never had any problems with the listing. However, I always used the term "tusk" and never used the term "ivory." Also, while I have never had or sold any, there is a lot of scrimshaw listed on eBay. While most is from teeth, there is no question but what some of the vintage jewelry is elephant tusk.

If the item is a plasma TV, priced ridiculously and payable using Western Union, perhaps the "basket" could work slightly differently. Instead the seller could be moved into the "basket", attached to a length of bungee cord, then the rest of us could bid for how long to make the cord before the basket is allowed to plunge into the rocky canyon far below.

No offence taken. What passes for humour is very different on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Or 'humor', even.

I recall a company vice president in Florida asking me "Hey John, do they use dollars in London?", which initially I took to be a joke, but later I discovered he was about to make his first trip abroad!

Been there, done that. However UK is nothing like as bad as Germany. My German partner has even gotten insulted at a things I intended as tongue in cheek or jokes.
