Thread: Fred the Shred and the vanishing Knighthood - do we really care?

  1. #1

Default Fred the Shred and the vanishing Knighthood - do we really care?

So he can't call himself "Sir" any more and will have to get his letter headed paper changed back again, but honestly, who cares? He still gets to keep the millions of pounds "earned" at the bank and retains the massive sixteen million pound pension pot. He's still living a lifestyle that 99% of the population can only dream of. So apart from making themselves look good by throwing a bone to the media and public, has the government's move made any real difference at all?

Some of the ones calling for it to be stripped gave it to him in the first place.

Is anyone surprised that the government is full of hypocrites?

It's pretty much Hobson's Choice. They are all useless - just some are more useless than others. If they were any use, or had any real skill sets, they wouldn't be in politics. That goes for politicians of all countries - not just the UK.

I don't know any system of governance that works.

The near collapse of RBS which was the result of bad management resulted in the taxpayer having to step in and to bail out RBS. Public services are having to be cut to help fund the bail out and in response to reduced levels of tax received following the economic recession that followed the credit crunch that took place when banks were about to go under. Neither Fred Goodwin nor other bankers with Honours should have been allowed to keep their Honours when their actions have caused so much damage to society as a whole.

The question is just how much of a punishment is the removal of a Knighthood for the damage caused by Fred & Co's actions? To my mind it is little more than a slap on the wrist.
