Default Question about potential sale that seems iffy

    Hi to all,

I have an apple i phone 4s 32 gb slim black never used still new and unlocked and ready to go,word got around I had this item,I am not sure from where, could have been one of the many social sites I frequent etc, anyhow the potential buyer asked if I would sell it offline for 50$ more, problem being I do not know this person how they got my email and I prefer to list items on site or if not sell to past customers

I do not want to get burned on this even though I would send with a tracking number they can claim a number of things, question being if and have you guys/gals ever been approached by someone out of the blue to buy something for more than your asking price only to do it offline where it is not monitored

I think I already know what my answer will be,just curious if it has happened to anyone else, and yes I did ask my contacts and friends no one gave any such person my buisness email or otherwise so I am really at a loss there

Guess I will just list it on here and hopefully someone worthy will snap it up

    Thanks

I have not had an offer of more money but did have an email asking if I would move something listed on one site to another where they were registered and would buy. The only place I could think of that they could have found my information is on Everyplaceisell.com. I do not have the same username on all sites so it took me a while to decide this must be the connection.

It hasn't happened to me, but I would certainly use the free listing facility here, maybe even put their name in the title so everyone knows it's for a specific person

I'd only list it somewhere - here - and tell them exactly when the listing would go up, and put it up for the price they suggested, and make sure that you sent it registered, signed for, or whatever the most definitely sure-fire safe way to mail it would be, and I'd think about what sort of payment I would take.......

Thanks for all the input,I did email the buyer suggesting I can list it here and give an exact time and put a # reference in the item description so they will know when and what to search for, thing is they want no part of that which,to me is the iffy part so will give them a day or so to see if they change their mind,if not will more than likely put it up for sale here

    Thanks again

Yes I have received these offers before. It happens a lot with expensive phones and other electronics. I ignore them as 99.9% of them are scams.

Why would anyone offer a seller $50 more than they were asking for?

The next thing, they will ask you not to send it them but ship it to direct to their son/daughter in some other country.

OP- What often happens here is they pay you for it, you send it to them and then they tell their bank the payment was unauthorised (someone hacked my account etc) and the bank reverse the payment. You're left with no phone and no cash. If you did it through Paypal the POP is enough to defend yourself and Paypal will give you your cash back. However, the buyer would still be left with the cash and the phone, but at least you aren't out of pocket.

OR they pay you via Western Union or suchlike and it bounces. Old school style.

I didn't mean to imply that everyone that asks for items to be sent to their children or another address is a scammer.

    Just 99.9%

You are, of course, in the other .1%
