Thread: New & Popular Auctions without image.

  1. #1

Default New & Popular Auctions without image.

There are quite a few listings that show in the New & Popular Auctions sections that do not have an image with them. I think this has a couple of effects:

Firstly it does not look good, the idea of these should be to promote sales and the site and I think both would be better if they all had images.

For promoting sales, many people will not bother with listings without an image, if they all had an image it could lead to more sales across the site.

While I personally like to see a gallery image with listings, they are not required. I see no reason why not having them should disqualify a listing from being among New or Popular Auctions.

If they are in the popular category, it means they have at least one bid................so no pic has not disqualified them from getting a sale. May have prevented more or earlier sales of the item, but is not ALWAYS a deal breaker. I generally don't bother looking at listings with no pic....when I'm browsing. If I'm after a specific thing, I would probably look if there were some other overriding factor - like price, or such.
    Ta-Ta for now!

Popular listing don't have to have a bid on them just the amount of looks or views.
So if you have a listing with no picture you will get more looks as people will click it to see the description also some people doe this and then add a picture as code in the description so again you will click on it and then see the picture.
for as many people there are that will pass it by there will be equal amount that will click it to see what it's all about.

I think the biggest point the original poster is making is that it makes eBid look less than inviting. In fact, one could say it looks a tad bit amateurish. People expect to see images instead of empty placeholders.

I think if a seller chooses to not provide a picture for their auction, that's fine. But, to have the front page of the site suffer because of their poor decision is probably not a good thing. I mean, how much does it cost to have a gallery image...a nickel? If a nickel is too much to swallow, then account for it in the price of the item (or across several items based on your average expected sales). With a little planning, the costs could easily be covered.

I think auctions without photos should be disqualified from the automatic listings on the front page. It's just not very attractive with the blank areas. What other sites have blank areas on their main pages?

Those sellers are too cheap to pay a FVF of a measly 2 or 3%....go figure!
