So are the SNP going to present a 'Plan B' to the Scottish people now that the UK government has ruled out currency union?
They may say Westminster are bluffing, they may believe Westminster are bluffing, but until Westminster are forced to play their cards they cannot be sure.
As that will not be until after the referendum that leaves it a little late to discover Westminster were not bluffing and come up with a second option.
So they can't be sure of currency union, and they can't be sure of joining the Eurozone. The only option they have total control over is their own currency - be that pegged to the pound or not.
Maybe Scotland could use the Mars Bar as currency?
I recall in the 1970s in Sardinia, when inflation of the Lira was rampant, getting small change paid in sticks of Wrigley's chewing gum.
Another reasoned response by the SNP to being told they can't have something they want. Rather like a spoilt child being told they can't play with someone else's toys.

That's what I was referring to. It doesn't suit so it is dismissed as preposterous, nonsense, rubbish, and political interference. If it had suited they would have been carrying him on their shoulders.
The SNP claim they can join the EU via Article 48 of the Lisbon Treaty. I can't see how that would apply.
Mind you, confusingly, they also claim they don't need to join as they are already in the EU.
So they can't have the pound sterling, they don't want the Euro, so it seems their own currency is the only remaining option.

No, the pound sterling is the currency of the UK, controlled by the Bank of England. Scotland, if they chose, could have a currency called the pound but it would not be the pound sterling.
Other countries use the pound as currency (e.g. Lebanon and Syria), but it is not the pound sterling.
I feel the real question people will be answering in the referendum is: Should Scotland be an independent country - at any cost?
