I have not looked at Mel's link about bank transfers (BACS), but one downside for the customer is that there is no protection with it. If a payment is misdirected to the wrong account (easy to do by transposing just one figure of the fourteen for an internal UK transfer); then all the bank can do is ask the recipient nicely to return the money. Therefore I personally would only use BACS with someone that I have bought from without problems in the past.
As for Braintree, it was a smart move by TOS to buy them up as that was the provider that Google CO were reccomending people move tol.
Both they and Skrill are now owned by Paypoo - I have not used either myself and would not because of that connection. One other thing against Skrill is that if your account is inactive for a year (bearing in mind that not many folks seem to use it) they charge you for the privilige.
One other option that has not been mentioned yet is Nochex, their personal account is free to join although the merchants account requires a £50 up front payment. And once again if the account is unused they shut it down after a year.

Yes, PayPal has a virtual monopoly on online payments. It does really need someone to step up and put the brakes on them. I think the only ones able to do that would be the combined banking sector.
I would dearly love to be able to use and recommend PPPay. Until they sort out unverified users' payments ending up in limbo though it remains just a desire.
I think you are wrong.

Okay I was wrong, I am sure that I read of something like that; however one thing that (maybe they own shares without owning thcompany).
However what can't be denied is that they work very closely with TOS which can hardly be a boost for customer confidence (bearing in mind the way the other site treat their customers).
Also apologies to Mel - I misappropriated his post about BACS as being from Bill earlier.
