ICE, SNOW and RAIN is what this week is.

3 of the creeks in the Slave Lake area have overflowed there banks. The MD (Municipal District) workers were up all night removing ice and trees form bridges and roads.

So far our town is wet but not flooded. Parking lots and soccer fields have small lakes as do all of the ditches.

The lake still has ice on it.

It rained here for the last two days and last night turned to snow. I think that the snow is better right now as it does not contribute to the creeks rising as much as the rain does. At least not till it melts and hopefully by then the creeks have come down a bit and most of the ice from the creeks should be sitting somewhere on the lake.

Yes, I hope that Slave Lake won't flood out, Whitecourt too. The past couple of years have been bad for flooding across the province. We got a bit of rain, but the forecast was for 50mm (2 inches) and we sure didn't need that with the ground still frozen. New Brunswick has had its share of bad weather too.

    Things might be improving

Municipal District of Lesser Slave River #124
    Update: April 24 9:30 a.m.

    Poplar Lane/Eating Creek
Water is slowly going down in this area but portions of the roadways and approaches were lost yesterday. Crews are removing ice and debris from the roadway which are open to local traffic only please.

    Mooney Creek
Around 3:30 a.m., night shift advised the Mooney Creek dropped drastically (approx 5 feet). Normally, it takes longer for the water on this creek to go down so this causes a bit of concern regarding additional ice jams up stream. We’ll continue to monitor and possibly do a fly over. The Sawridge Road will remain closed and will not reopen until a bridge inspection is done to ensure the bridge structure was not damaged from the ice.

    Courtorielle Road – Canyon Creek
    Courtorielle Road is now open.

Suddenly, the fact that I think it is about to rain doesn't matter!

    Yep, springtime in Canada.

    Selkab, do you go fishing?
    Yes I do

Oh, No. Snow in the forecast. My front lawn is starting to fill with Crocuses right now. I hope they survive a snowfall.
