No info was lost. The thread was closed as it was heading in a direction where it stood a chance of being deleted - when all the info in it would have been lost.

It would have been more productive if, instead of berating me for closing it, a fresh thread had been started. Hopefully the two antagonists on the original thread would have left the new thread alone (though likely not as one party had to start and close their own thread just to have the last word ).

As soon as the people participating in the conversation changes, sometimes the best option is to close the thread opposed to it being deleted. Good move Astral.

To reply to Marie - my point about Canadian spelling is exactly as you say - Tire is the US spelling and Centre the UK one - to see the two in the same expression is almost comic.

I was remarking that it was a pity that this interesting discussion had to be stopped when it was being enjoyed by other posters, because of the childish antics of a couple of neds.

Well this thread's title, and the second and third paragraph of your initial post read to me that you considered I had acted improperly/unreasonably in closing my thread.

i saw that post too it arrived just after 1am and was removed just after 12noon ish

i did not see anything in any posts in that thread that were childish, you obviously had a difference of opinion, but more information came out from you and the other poster on the subject that added to the debate,
