A Special Day For Me Today :)

Today is my first re-birthday. It's a bit of a tradition among some people who have been brought back to life following a cardiac arrest. We announce our re-birthday on Facebook and this is usually followed by a flurry of posts from people who have been there.


We celebrate because not many people survive cardiac arrests as someone has to start CPR within 4 minutes for there to be a chance of being brought back.


Then there is the 'down time' which has a bearing on what to expect when someone wakes up. Scary stuff....I'm just happy to still be here

So are my family...especially Billy. I asked him when my cardiac arrest was as I wasn't quire with it that day...lol

He said he didn't have a clue as he was so worried he didn't know what day it was until after I came out of the coma. (no help there then)

So I am having a re-birthday weekend in case I got the wrong day

Congratulations on your re-birthday and many more of them, my brother will be having his 6th this year and lots of grateful thanks must go to our dedicated NHS staff for this as with out them it would not have been possible.

My help was somewhat patchy. At the same hospital I was medically assessed on a trolley in a corridor (left there for more than 12 hours)

I then went to a cardiac ward where the staff had no clue what was going on so they called the medic registrar down when I promptly went into cardiac arrest in front of him. He made 3 attempts at CPR (no defibrillator) then when I remained in a coma but had a heart beat I was sent to ICU.

I had excellent care in ICU....then was sent down to a male ward where my Billy found me with no blanket covering me and my curtain left open.

Lived up to my Moony name on that ward

Then spent the rest of my time there on another cardiac ward before being sent home with no follow up...haven't had a cardiology appointment yet.

So...I am here because Billy called the ambulance...a random passer by hospital staff member who performed CPR and all the staff in ICU

As an aside.. in the same hospital my Billy's blood clots were misdiagnosed as sciatica. He wasn't given the right treatment and he lost his leg.

He had excellent care at the second hospital....as I said NHS care is very like the little girl who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead

I'm very sorry you had to go through all that! I've been watching NHS for quite a while, as our healthcare has headed the same direction....
