Hi,
Just wondered how many of you have got your own websites/pages ?
If so, how difficult are they to get up and running ?
Cheers

Yes, I have.
Easy.
It just depends on what you want to do, how complicated you want the site to be and how much you want to pay for it.
You need to be aware that it can cost you every 1 to 10 years for the site hosting (having it sit on someone's server) and every 1 to 5 years for the domain name registration (the www.yourname.thing) depending on how you arrange things.
The cheapest way, if you want your own domain is to 'redirect' it to your webspace provided by your ISP. When you purchase a domain, you will get instructions on how to do this.
If you are buying a domain, go for a .com, as other extensions don't do as well in the search engines. (Americans thinking that they own the internet etc)
I've got a couple of websites, http://www.completesh i te.com (remove the spaces) it's mainly old TV adverts, I'm adding new stuff at the moment, click on the cheesy adverts link at the top.
Also http://www.davethewave.co.uk which has a load of 'wav' files and a few old kid's tv programs. e.g. Hector's house.
You'll need an html editor too, there are loads of free ones around. I use netscape for basic editing.
You can also make a few pounds by having advertising banners, but target them at your visitors and don't have too many. I get about 100 visitors a day, and only make £3 or less a month, it helps with the hosting fees though.
This is the one I useOriginally Posted by rolfharrisunderpants

I have my own web site, http://www.spiritualworld.co.uk
The hosting is £1.50 per month. I use http://www.123-reg.co.uk they offer hosting, building and registering your site. I have built it myself, so I have had quite a few teething problems. I do get compliments about the site, but I would say it is a steep learning curve and I've still got a way to go. :-)
How much does it cost for the shopping cart
Life is serious but taking it too seriously robs you of
happiness, fun and productivity
I have several websites, including a few shopping carts, ranging from the very easy, to complex and full-featured. The best shopping cart is free, and I can host it for just £1.99 per month on a sub-domain. Free dropshippers directory is also included. If you are interested, please feel free to pm me.
Come and try your luck in our gaming forums:

I use Paypal, so it only cost the ususal Paypal fees.
I use Shopcreator for our website www.fueltanksdirect.co.uk - for a monthly payment (£45) I get the hosting, the templates the technical back up shopping cart e-mail forwarding etc, it gives a professional result from not a great deal of work (about 2 weeks to master the difficult bits)Originally Posted by Allabout4x4
It is quite expensive compared to do it yourself but I had a fully operational website up and running in less than 2 days!
They operate a trial period offer (2 weeks I think)
pm me if you want anymore info

I have had web sites for about 4 years now.
Thing with me though, i get BORED very quickly so am constatly changing.
I have used various diff companies , some terrible AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE ( UK2 Host ) Other like 123 , mentioned above very good.
My fave @ the mo is LCN for co.uk domains they are less than £8 for 2 years. That does not come with webspace, though they do offer that .
They do offer free email and web re - direction though ( as also mentioned above ).
Here is their link. http://www.lowcostnames.co.uk/
In my experience they are very fast, virtualy trouble free and my faves.
The reason my own web site is down at the mo, is due to me re designing some aspects of it , not down to any technical problems.
PS : I use dreamweaver and in truth ( i wish ) i had from the start , as by using other online builder etc ... i picked up what i now see as bad habits. However, if its only a one off website and you dotn intend to be designing a lot , in the future...would be the easiest option to go for an online builder or free design package provider , such as lycos ( whom my friend has ). She is learning as she goes along after previously knowing nothing.
