    Hi Kazzi
Great amount raised so quickly.... I am sure you will have a great day.
I did Race for life for the first time last year.
I didn't train (kept putting it off) so thought i would walk but the atmosphere on the day spurred me on and i ended up running most of it. Completed in 32 minutes & raised £260.
It gets abit emotional on the day, reading everyones back signs on who they are doing it for, plus i had lost my nan to cancer a few years before, so had a bit of a blub after.
Hope you have a fantastic day.
    Claire

    thanks for the message claire.....

Just for the record folks, I am putting daily entries [as much as i can] into my page of peoples messages and personal experiences of how cancer has affected them or a loved one, so if any of you would like to send me a message that you dont mind being published I would be very greatful, after all it heightens awareness of how many peoples lives have actually been affected by it....if you wish I can publish it anonymous if you prefer

claire would you mind if I eneterd your message?

my pm box is open, so if anyone prefer to messageme that way please feel free

The first time that cancer took anyone close to me was on september 13th 2002. My mate Brian Sykes was given 6 weeks to live but he lasted 18 months with the help of chemo. I watched him change so much in that time, it was very hard to watch. He was a good, kind bloke and a brave man. I still get a lump in my throat whenever I think of him fighting the cancer with every fibre of his being.

When he lost his battle against cancer I wrote this poem as a sort of tribute to him, all his family and many of his friends asked me to print a copy of it for them.

Old Brian Sykes was a really grand lad,
He'd suffered hard times which made us all sad.

He just couldn't fight another long day,
He couldn't keep that damn cancer at bay.

He fought like a trooper, he wouldn't give in,
But on friday the 13th it got the better of him.

It hit us hard, we cried all day.
But Brian wouldn't want us to be this way.

He wouldn't want us to feel such sorrow,
He'd simply want us to live for tomorrow.

He always said that he'd put up a fight,
After watching him I can say he was right.

Task's left undone must now stay that way,
But he now has peace at the end of the day.

He wasn't rich, he was probably broke,
But he'd give you anything, this kind yorkshire bloke.

One thing is for sure and everyone knows,
He'll bring happiness where ever he goes.

We'll miss t'old Brian, it is quite sad,
There's no one can replace this grand yorkshire lad.

I still miss the old bugger.
