Those researchers should try what I used to do - Motorcycle Courier.

Officially classed as they second most dangerous job in the UK (first is North Sea Diver) it is impossible to get life insurance, health care insurance etc. You only get paid per mile while carrying a parcel and have to pay your own costs in both directions out of that. And the biggest danger to deal with is LONDON CAB DRIVERS. You get to your drop after 200+ miles - often in rain, sometimes snow - and some jerk says "you should have been here 1/2 hour ago".
