    Just replying to this again - I don't have the padlock once I have logged in and the https changes to http too!!

    The thing to remember here about the 'padlock' is that it is a virtual one, not a real one, and the security afforded by it isn't as great as the venders of the system would like us to believe. I'm not saying that it's not a useful feature, I'm just saying that it's not worth obsessing over it.

    As for the OP's original point about the warning, this situation can arise if the ISP through whom you connect to the Internet has for some reason not flushed their DNS cache. If this problem is still happening, your ISP is the one to talk to about it.

    I have listed items for sale on eBay and eBid for a long time now - I buy from Amazon, Play.com etc., - all sites show the padlocks and https urls - I don't see it here for the last few weeks - things were fine before until this started to happen. As for the second bit of your message I haven;t a clue what I am supposed to do about that - if all other sites show the security settings could it be that they only have one not covered? I don't know how that works.

    When you browse any internet site you're not on a secure page,as in anyone has access to it.When you login,the page you're on is only accessible by you (& probably admin).This is so no one can hack your password & therefore your account.
    Once you've logged in,(entered your password) you then go to the general pages of eBid,accessible by all.The pop up box is asking you if you want to go ahead & do that.The login page has the https prefix & the padlock to show you that it's secure.

    It's not telling you that you're going to an insecure page,it's saying you're going to a page that is no longer secure.A subtle difference,but a difference no less!

    You can also get a similar message if some elements of a page, graphic images for instance are referenced on a secure page but held on a different server.

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!! A comprehensive reply in a language I understand that now makes me feel much better

    I have been buying and selling online for years and now and again get "spooked" by certain aspects, as do we all no doubt. Erring on the side of caution has to be a good way to be though eh?

    Many thanks to you and the others who have given a response to this question :}
