After putting gas in my car today @ $4.39/gallon; I started dreaming about the virtues of public transportation.
There are several old order Amish in our area and I do not envy them (or their horses) in the cold of winter or the heat of summer so guess we will stick with gas powered with heat and air and try to not complain too much.
We filled up today at $3.68. That was for gas, hubbys pickup is diesel and it is $4.38 now.
Whilst running your car on veggie oil is probably great, it is illegal i believe if you get caught, as you are avoiding tax duty
Also probably not so much on older cars, but if you have a new car, it can invalidate any warranty on your engine, if your car dies
just something to note

Guernsey used to be cheap, in December I was paying 54p per litre for diesel, then they took away vehicle tax and lumped it on the fuel price, but for diesel they also added the tax difference between diesel and petrol.
Now I pay £1.06/ litre - OUCH!

That's still less than us on the mainland, and I bet your annual mileage isn't very high either.

We are in mid-western Illinois, and there are Armish here too. I like to see them in their buggies. Horses still have "road rights" here. I just hope we don't end up having to go that 'route" too. It would be great for fun but, would take us about 6 hours to get to the grocery store. The nearest town is 5 - 6 miles from us but, all they have is a bank, post office & a gas station..oh yes also a small restaurant. Just hope it doesn't get worse. It's still about $4.00 per gallon here. Sandy
Central Oregon here...gas just spiked yesterday to $4.19/unleaded, and $4.48/diesel....YEEEEEOW!! I'd buy a Vespa to get around in, but between the heavy winter snows and the fact that I'm 60-something....
It's not an offence to use up to just over 2,000 litres a year of veggie oil in the UK. It was, but Gordy changed it.
Don't know about the warranty thing - like I'm ever gonna have a new car
