    However, our country park wardens are always trimming bits off trees or even felling them and are very happy if someone removes any of the wood which saves them chipping or burning it.

    seeing the toothpaste key reminds me of an elderly uncle who did the sam princible but using a key from I think it was a sardine tin key, am shore there are plenty of things like that, the other thing he and my aunt used to do isdry the orange peel in the evening by the fire & next morning it helped light the fire in the morning instead of fire lighters.
