The only thing you should really need to check if they both use the same interface is one of the jumpers. If you have two drives in a machine then one drive should be set as the Master and the other as the Slave. If only the one drive is fitted then that should be set as the Master.

This is set by moving a little plug on the rear of the drive as arrowed below (though its position on your drive may vary). The position for Master/Slave should be marked on the drive itself.
