Default bulk uploading: exhausted and snivelling

I don't know how long I've been struggling now: I can't get it to work.

I can't save in txt or tsv format if I create a spreadsheet in Calc or Bulk Uploader - it's not available as an option.

If I export listings as a template, I still can't save in a tab delimited format.

If I save in CSV and follow instructions for making it tab delimited, it doesn't work.

If I open exported listings in Calc, I can save as txt format but the listings are rejected because I'm 'saving under the wrong username' i.e. every single bit of information in my listing is treated as a username. I can't save in tsv - again, not available.

I actually could cry. I could have listed umpteen items in the time I've wasted, but I'm too tired now.

Sorry, I remember about a year ago there were problems when Calc changed to csv but I don't know if anyone ever came up with a work-around.

You'll probably get the help you need quicker on the Open Office forums.

Have you tried creating your bulk upload file on the online version at www.ebidinfo.com? the .txt file you create is what you need for the bulk upload.

If it's any help if you want to email your current file i could open it in excel- then save as a .txt file and send it back to you for uploading? PM me if you want to try this.

Cheers for the help both you guys! (and sorry for the snivelling. I was a bit tired and emotional, ahem).

I've now managed to upload a small number of items! Yay! But they're not showing up in my listings... does it take a while?

For those who find this thread later on- To save your OO Calc file as Tab Delimited properly for Bulk Upload (it's not obvious in OO, very convoluted, but here's how)

    The following procedure:

    1. File > Save as...
    2. Select CSV as the type
    3. Deselect Automatic filename extension
    4. Select Edit filter settings
    5. Change file name to end with .TSV (or whatever you use).
    6. Press Save
    7. Select {Tab} as the Field delimiter.
    8. Backspace over the text field separator (mine defaults to ", we dont want this in there.. ) so as to leave it blank (no separator)

That should save your spreadsheet in perfect .tsv format for bulk uploading.
Many changes yet again, started a new venture, and you can watch my store grow here: Really Rural Woodworks
