"Casting nasturtiums" - a popular, intentional malapropism for "casting aspersions" frequently used for comic effect. The effect is somewhat limited if the reader doesn't know that.

As for unnecessary - I think suggesting that the people who prefer the secret stay secret are doing so because they want to get away with sending something that's taken less time or effort or will be somehow embarrassing when revealed is *definitely* unnecessary. Not extreme, just unnecessary.

Did anyone else who has voted on this thread take part in previous years SS? If yes, how did it work for you?

We don't know for sure if people voting in this poll are actually planning to take part in this years SS? has anyone voted but not yet decided?

Is there an option for those who don't want to 'reveal' to be partnered up with others who want to stay secret?

I love SS and have taken part since I joined eBid,

I love being SS and choosing my present to send, but the best bit is guessing who sent mine!

The guessing thread is all part of the fun, and SS wouldn't be the same without it

It doesn't matter to me if the SS are revealed after Christmas. I think that would be a good way for the receiver of the gift to say "Thank You" to the giver. I would just like to have some hints about what everyone would like to have.

As this is my first year in taking part in the Secret Santa here, I can't really pass any judgement on how things were before. That said, I joined in the fun of the SS under those 'terms & conditions' (for lack of a better phrase) so whichever way it was worked before I'm happy to go along with.

I think it would be fun trying to guess who your Santa was. Its all part of the SS fun. If people want to reveal and own up to being someones Santa, then they will, if not, they'll keep schtum.
