Unhappy How do you refund on Paypal?

I consider myself technologically competant... which is why this is frustrating me even more.

A buyer hasnt received an item I posted and filed a dispute through Paypal. Not a problem in itself as I have proof of postage for the item and they seem like a decent buyer, so I know they arent out to rip anyone off.

The problem is I tried to reply to the buyer through Paypal and the only option that was available came up through 'note to Paypal', I wrote a note explaining I will refund etc as its been a while since I posted it.

Clicked submit.. page is blank and asks me to enter a message.. nothing of the message on the dispute page.

So I think hmm maybe it will only let me add a message after I refund? Not the way I remember it being before but heck I need to refund it anyway as they havent received it.

Could I find that refund button? Noooo

I've literally clicked every link on the dispute page at least 3 times...nothing...

Nightmare scenario, cant refund, not sure if my message went though.... worst comes to worst I'll send them the money direct and add the extra for the fees but thats just putting extra funds into Paypals greedy pockets.

Anyone know where they might have moved the refund button to?

    Sorry for the ramble btw

When you are on the page with the list of your transactions, find the right on, click on 'details' Fairly near the bottom and easily missed there is the option to make a refund

    This is what it says:

    Refund:
You can issue a refund for up to 60 days after the original payment was sent. PayPal refunds the payment and fees, including partial fees for partial refunds.

Personally I would be claiming from Royal Mail before doing a refund, if this can be done in a reasonable time frame. You should be able to get up to £36 I think it is, if they ask whether it was a feeBay item just say no (and don't volunteer any more information).

RM will not look at a refund for lost items until 15 working days (3 weeks) have passed. The value is currently £39, since it is based on the price of a 1st class stamp.

That's still well within the 60 day refund period allowed by PayPal, and I think any honest buyer should be prepared to wait if given this information.

OP - You need to be in the dispute log to post a message about the claim; and in the details section of the transaction to make a refund.

You might also like to think of another method if possible I was refunded £1.20 recently & Paypoo refunded my credit card, the charges for this excellent service was £0.83p so actually ended up with £0.37p!

We weren't in dispute by the way and I hadn't asked for a refund it was just an excellent eBid seller being very fair.

    Default PayPal refund

You have to go to the original transaction page - at the bottom there's a refund button - click on it & everything is very clear - however, if the buyer's started a dispute - there's almost a 100% chance that PayPal will refund the money without checking with you first - I've had that happen to me - they don't recognise PO Certificates of Posting - they say it's not proof that you've posted an item!!!!!!!!!!!

So you basically have a choice of original transaction refund button - or wait & PayPal will do it automatically.
