Thread: When the HELP page isn't helpful, what do you do?

  1. #1

Exclamation When the HELP page isn't helpful, what do you do?

    http://uk.ebid.net/help_register.php

    11) I've been told I need to validate my account.

On the email you receive when you register there is a link you must click on that tells us you received the email ok. If you haven't done this yet then do it now. If you have lost the email then there's a problem!

That last line is incredibly unhelpful. Users turn to the help section because they already know they have a problem, they don't need to be told that without being given the solution.

Rather than leaving them hanging in limbo, would it not be far better to suggest that the user contact eBid Support to resolve the issue?

The sentence seems hard to understand also, would it be possible to change

    'received the email ok'

    to:

    'received the email successfully'

A bit like the old PC error message: Keyboard not found. Press any key to continue

How do you receive an email unsuccessfully?

    Replace with 'received the email'.

On the email you receive when you register there is a link you must click on that tells us you received the email ok. If you haven't done this yet then do it now. The email should arrive immediately after you register. If you haven't received the email then go to our lost password page. You can enter your username or email address here and submit. The validation email will be sent out to you again.

The new version looks much better - could do with a direct link to the Lost Password page - but it's still far better than before.
